Episode 003 - The Prosperity Gospel
Today’s topic is the prosperity gospel. The Church exists not to be an isolated insulated community, but to be a missionary community. Our understanding of the Gospel is important because what we preach shapes our churches. We must guard against preaching a false gospel. So, why is the prosperity gospel spreading?
Notes from this episode:
Gospel in Greek is euaggelion. It means “good news.”
The Good News is first and foremost about Jesus.
In the prosperity gospel, the great enemy is not reaching your potential or having enough faith to get what you want.
There is a new version of the prosperity gospel that portrays Jesus as more of a life coach.
Ephesians 1:5. This is your destiny.
If you’re not being challenged with holiness and servanthood through God’s grace, then you’re under a prosperity gospel.
Seek to be like the Bereans in Acts 17:11.
It’s not about what you have, but you do with what you have. Does your excess meet someone else’s need or does it feed your greed?
Ephesians 6. Our battle is not with flesh and blood. Be less concerned with what other people think of you and more concerned with what Jesus thinks.
True prosperity is the prosperity of the soul being conformed to the image of Christ.
Read the Gospels and New Testament. Marinate and pray over the Scriptures.
