Episode 002 - Belonging to God

In today’s episode, Patrick asks, “How do I know I’m saved? I struggle with doubt and guilt when I sin post being ‘saved,’ though I’m trying to live a faithful life.”

Dr. Derwin Gray says that even asking this question shows that you belong to Christ. He recounts his own salvation story and what it was like following Jesus as a new believer.

In this episode, Dr. Derwin Gray references:

  • Galatians 2:20.

  • The Passover described in Exodus 12.

  • Jesus is the new Passover Lamb. His blood sets us free.

  • Sin is cosmic rebellion of who we were created to be.

  • The Day of Atonement described in Leviticus 16.

  • Jesus is the eternal Day of Atonement.

  • Salvation is bigger and more glorious than you and I ever thought.

  • We are saved through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus.

  • Romans 5:8. Love brings us into God’s family.

  • The word “saved” in Greek is sozo. Three different tenses in the New Testament; past, present, and future. I have been saved from the penalty of sin. I am being saved from the power of sin. I will be saved from the presence of sin. Justification. Sanctification. Glorification.

  • Whenever you see the word BUT in the Bible, you know something big is about to happen. Galatians 2:20 might be the biggest BUT in the Bible.

  • Christ lives in you!

  • Don’t try…TRUST. Rely on God the Holy Spirit to transform you into the image of Jesus.

  • The Holy Spirit seals you. Ephesians 1:13-14.

  • Our inheritance is resurrected and glorified bodies in the new heavens and the new earth.
